I have 2 "Westys", same year, same color scheme, 1 full camper and a weekender.
I am selling the weekender for $6000

or use as downpayment on a VWsynchro-camper (4x4).

I originally bought the weekender for parts for my camper, but then it kept running so well after i gave it new cylinder heads, new steering fluid pump, shocks.....

Ok. I'm always behind the ball. Nothing available at Paddy's wagon. Do they tolerate doubling up on sites? If so, anyone willing to double?

So after some research the past couple days and doing some rough estimating...we have lost OVER 800 aircooled VWs to the crushers in Pennsylvania in the LAST YEAR! Possibly over 1000 in PA the past 3 years! That is Pennsylvania alone.

I called a yard today that just 3 years ago, he had over 1000 VWs in his yard and said at least 500 were air cooled. Today, he said there is one Vanagon and MAYBE a few Bugs.

Of course I know we all can't buy complete parts VWs. But we have to do our best to get ahold of any original part that we can.

I know that within the past month, a PA yard that held over 200 aircooled VWs were crushed. Most of which were complete. We're not talkin about stripped VWs. We're talkin about complete VWs. Complete Westies. Complete Split Window Buses. Devastating.

And of course the place I tried to talk the owner into selling parts before crushing. I was denied and 60+ aircooled VWs were crsuhed on the spot. Most were 75-80% complete VWs.

If you have a local yard that you think will hold those parts for you forever...better hope the crushers don't find em first!

Sorry. Just ranting and wishing I wasn't a day late and a dollar short.

ALL but ONE were crushed here. Only one saved is the tarped convertible Bug. The rest are now big metal cubes.

These were all crushed August 2011.

Part of the problem is what you stated, the owners of these bug farms are unwilling to sell from their collection.

Here is the place that I called today that at one time supposedly had 500 aircooled VWs. Two separate shots don't even get the whole yard. ALL GONE! (you can click on pics to enlarge)

That is so depressing! Makes you appreciate not only the old bays bus and splits we have, but also the clubs who generate and maintain a a deep love for these great cars and the crazy owners that drive them!

Also special and makes me appreciate even more is the whole excitement with the nattybus raffle bus. Yes most important you support a great cause but in doing so a few dedicated Volks help save another bus for a little longer.

Love and appreciate what you have while you have it!

What a sad thing we do. Throwing away a part of our history. Well I guess we can all just try to do our best to get what we can. What I find dumb is nobody wants to sell them for the same as what they get at the scrap yard. Sell for 800 but scrap for 300. Doesn't make sense.

The worst part is a guy walks up with a fist full of $100.00 bills most people these days say YEA . They don't care. Two of the yards that Justin is talking about I told him about. One of them ,I new the guy pretty well and he never called to tell me anything about it. He just said there all gone and that I went up a step on the hording scale. Allot of VW's went out of there. Just a crying shame !

I know of two beetles sitting out in the woods on a farm near my house. I hate the thought of them sitting there or of some scrapper hauling them off to the crusher to make a few bucks. If I knew someone who would and could do something with them I'd go see the owner and ask him if he'd sell. There's a "graveyard" about 15 minutes from me and the jerk won't sell a thing.. It sits there and rusts. So sad.

Please don't move your firewood. Buy it local.

what i really like is when i write vw to ask about a new t-5 van, they write back and tell me that the ev does not meet north american sales goals, so they won't bring it to the states. very short sighted, if you ask me
