For years now I have talked about going to DC for a week without any kids along. I have been several times but always with school groups.
Cheri is working at camp, Mildred is working and hates anything historical so,
I am getting into my bus Monday morning and going to DC for a week by myself. I just came up with this idea yesterday. I plan to stay in the Smithsonian all day if I want to, without having to rush to the next thing. More to follow.

Awesome. In the bus no less! You will have a great time...hot, but great. Are you camping? We used to stay at Cherry Hill Park CG in the bus when we were going to Dead shows at RFK. Enjoy. Don't spend too much time gawking at Fonzie's Leather Jacket. I hear the new Native American Museum is awesome.

Congratulations Boyd! I'm so glad that you're getting to slow down and enjoy some "you" time. I can't wait to hear all about your trip.
Angel, my eldest, is going to be the Lieutenant in her safety patrol troop this coming year. Rumor is they go to DC. We may have to pack up and go too. Find us a good camping spot on Capitol Hill!?

Never camped there, but have been several times, mostly during the Rolling Thunder gathering. Looks like you have a good idea of where you want to visit but if you have time, be sure to check out the Air and Space museum at Dulles, and go to the National Cathedral. Hope you have a great time

Back in my younger days, I had some friends who would go to D.C. and stealth camp around the city in their bus. Since 9/11 I bet you wouldn't have a prayer of doing that any more.

Great little campground in Reston VA called Lake Fairfax Park. I believe it is a County Park. We stayed there for a week in the bus and rode the metro into the "mall" everyday. Also the newer Aerospace musemum at Dulles Airport is free and is a must see on my list, 100+ planes rockets space shuttles missles and stuff. Parking was $12 though. Enjoy your trip!

I have been to most everything in DC but like I said I have never been without a class of kids in tow. I could spend a day just sitting in the Lincoln Memorial. Ford's Theater is a moving place as well. I figure I will have three or four days to just wander about aimlessly. So I take it you guys feel the RedNeck Hightop would be not welcome stealth camping at the WhiteHouse?

Be careful there Boyd, they have all the wrong places that you can go to, without knowing it (Gangs) and they don't fool around, make sure of where you stay at night.

My sister and I visited in March. Our 5th time there. Enjoyed the Newseum.

Ford's Theatre was good. Not the theatre itself, but the Lincoln museum in the basement. It's free but you have to get a ticket.

The Spy Museum is neat and the Postal museum is good.

One thing we learned. Next time we are going to stay close to Pentagon City's Fashion Centre Mall. Lots of parking, metro station and food court. Costs about $14 to park for the day.

I think some Canadians had a campfire there back in 1812...

'Bout time we did that again!

The Potts' are planning a trip to Dc on the way home from HCBF. I hope to spend 2 days at the Smithsonian, and we'll probably camp at Bull Run as long as we can get a campsite.
